Opening the Era of Citizens' Educational Sovereignty with Fair, Unbiased Educational Administration
Lee Byeong-do, the 19th Superintendent-elect of the Chungnam Office of Education, has officially raised the curtain on the "Era of Citizens' Educational Sovereignty" under the banner of "Chungnam Education's Happy Accompaniment."
The members of the recently formed "Chungnam Education Future Accompaniment Preparation Committee" have pledged to deliver an education that is open to everyone and firmly believes in the potential of each and every child, serving as a "ladder of hope for the upcoming future education." It is only natural that the eyes of Chungnam citizens are focused on their first steps toward shaping the future of education.
Superintendent-elect Lee presented 33 basic pledges across 5 major policy areas to realize his vision. He urged the preparation committee to lay the foundation for solid mid-to-long-term directions and to build communication rooted in trust between citizens and the educational community. Furthermore, he expressed strong determination to realize "Democracy Together, Proper Innovation, and Happy Chungnam Education" based on precise current status analysis and prompt issue responses, ensuring that these pledges are substantially implemented in classrooms. His ambition and resolve are highly timely and commendable.
However, for this vision to go beyond mere slogans and genuinely lay the foundation for communication, there is a critical task that the preparation committee and the incoming administration must address: a major overhaul of the "media public relations administration" that delivers educational policies to the public.
Past educational administrations have often faced criticism for biased public relations that favored specific media outlets. For the "trust-based communication" advocated by Superintendent-elect Lee to succeed, the administration must boldly break away from these unreasonable and biased PR practices. A true channel of communication with citizens will only open when a fair and equitable public relations administration is firmly established across all media outlets.
For the Office of Education to confidently ask the media for active cooperation and to "hold hands," it is only logical that they first demonstrate a fair and balanced attitude. When media administration becomes fair, the press will naturally be able to convey the vivid voices of classrooms and advanced educational policies to citizens with greater sincerity.
CTN, South Koreas leading internet newspaper, and its sister publication, The Education Times—the nation's only specialized educational newspaper—are fully prepared to actively participate in Superintendent-elect Lees innovative vision and advanced educational administration. Looking forward to the realization of a "Happy Accompaniment" grounded in fairness and equity, we wholeheartedly cheer on Superintendent-elect Lees journey toward a brighter future for Chungnam education.
