[천안/CTN]강현수 기자 = 어린이들이 도서관 곳곳을 누비며 미션을 수행하는 이색적인 체험을 통해 스스로 정보를 찾는 지식 탐험가로 거듭나고 있다.

충청남도천안교육지원청성환도서관은 지난 13일부터 내달 10일까지 성환 지역 초등학교 학생들을 대상으로 학교 연계 도서관 활용 프로그램인 ‘위기에 빠진 도서관을 구해라’를 총 3회에 걸쳐 운영한다고 밝혔다. 이번 프로그램은 주입식 교육에서 벗어나 초등학생들이 도서관이라는 공간을 친숙하게 느끼고, 다양한 미션을 해결하는 과정에서 자연스럽게 도서관 이용 방법과 자료 검색 능력을 체득할 수 있도록 기획됐다.

특히 교과 연계 도서를 활용한 문제 해결 활동과 협동 미션을 전면에 배치해 학생들의 사고력과 협동심을 동시에 기르는 데 방점을 뒀다. 참여 학생들은 도서관 자료실에서 청구기호를 지도 삼아 직접 책을 찾아보고, 충남교육청 통합전자도서관을 활용한 디지털 미션을 수행하며 온·오프라인을 넘나드는 고도화된 정보 활용 능력을 재미있게 익혔다. 아울러 모형 책을 활용한 단체 게임을 통해 친구들과 협력해 문제를 해결하는 공동체 가치도 몸소 체험했다.

성환도서관 관계자는 “학생들이 놀이와 미션 활동을 통해 도서관에 대한 흥미를 높이고 스스로 필요한 정보를 탐색하는 능력을 기르는 소중한 시간이 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 학교 교육과정과 연계한 다채로운 독서·체험 프로그램을 지속적으로 개발해 지역 학생들의 문해력 향상에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

학교와 도서관이 연계한 이번 현장 중심 프로그램은 어린이들에게 도서관을 ‘공부하는 지루한 공간’이 아닌 ‘즐거운 발견이 가득한 놀이터’로 인식시키는 계기가 될 것이다. 일선 학교와의 유기적인 협력을 바탕으로 구축된 이러한 독서 생태계가 향후 지역 인재들의 창의성과 자기주도 학습 능력을 키우는 튼튼한 자양분이 될 것으로 기대된다.

The Seonghwan Library of the Chungcheongnam-do Cheonan Education Support Office announced that it will operate "Save the Library in Crisis," a school-linked library utilization program targeting elementary school students in the Seonghwan area, for a total of three sessions from May 13 to June 10. Moving away from rote education, this program was designed to help elementary students feel familiar with the library space and naturally acquire library usage skills and data retrieval capabilities while solving various missions.

In particular, the program focused on simultaneously fostering students' thinking skills and teamwork by placing problem-solving activities using curriculum-linked books and cooperative missions at the forefront. Participating students searched for books themselves in the library resources room using call numbers as their guides and completed digital missions utilizing the Chungnam Education Office Integrated Electronic Library, learning advanced information utilization skills across online and offline platforms in a fun way. Additionally, through group games using model books, they personally experienced community values by cooperating with friends to solve problems.

An official from the Seonghwan Library stated, "We hope this serves as a valuable time for students to increase their interest in the library through play and mission activities and to develop the ability to search for necessary information on their own." The official added, "We will continue to develop various reading and hands-on programs linked to the school curriculum to contribute to improving the literacy of local students."

This field-centered program linking schools and the library will serve as an opportunity for children to perceive the library not as a "boring space for studying" but as a "playground full of joyful discoveries." It is highly expected that this reading ecosystem, built on organic cooperation with local schools, will serve as a strong nutrient to foster creativity and self-directed learning abilities in regional talents in the future.
