"Not Even 1% Contamination Allowed"... Cheonan City Enforces Special Inspection on Water Purifiers at Multi-Use Facilities
Pinpoint verifications on sanitation status of massive stores until the end of this month... Imposing up to 1 million KRW fine upon violation.
May 21, 2026
[Cheonan/CTN] Reporter Kang Hyun-su = Cheonan City has launched high-intensity census crackdowns on water purifier systems within its jurisdiction to safeguard the public health security of 700,000 citizens amid premature sweltering heat and to establish a sanitary drinking water supply environment at multi-use facilities.
The city announced on the 21st that it will formally conduct powerful guidance and inspections until the end of this month on cold/hot water dispensers and water purifiers installed at major local multi-use facilities, including large-scale retail stores. This measure was proactively designed to realize a policing-style sanitation administration that breaks away from conventional document evaluation to personally pierce field scenes, as the risks of waterborne infectious diseases and bacterial propagation inside pipes escalate following temperature rises.
The verification targets encompass overall multi-use facilities with high citizen foot traffic alongside large-scale stores like department stores and mega-marts where floating populations pack. Specialized inspection teams from the city hall's Environmental Policy Division are visiting fields unannounced to pinpoint and verify the legality of modification reporting statuses, the suitability of installation locations (such as proximity to restrooms or exposure to direct sunlight), and whether management logs tracking filter replacement cycles and sanitization status are faithfully maintained and displayed.
Notably, during this inspection, the city will apply a zero-tolerance principle without any administrative compromise, immediately imposing a fine of up to 1 million KRW in accordance with related enactments on facility managers who fail to meet sanitation standards or directly violate installation and management duties.
Kim Su-jin, Head of the Cheonan City Environmental Policy Division, expressed strong determination, stating, "We will thoroughly inspect cold/hot water dispensers and water purifiers within multi-use facilities utilized by a multitude of citizens, children, and seniors, thereby settling a clean drinking water supply environment where people can drink with complete peace of mind without a single anxiety."
