조승래 더불어민주당 사무총장은 27일 낮 12시, 서산 동부시장 내 서산수협 앞에서 열린 맹정호 후보 지원 유세에 참여해 현장 분위기를 뜨겁게 달궜다.
이날 유세차에 오른 조승래 사무총장은 맹정호 후보와의 두터운 신뢰 관계를 먼저 내세웠다. 조 사무총장은 “맹정호 후보와는 대학 시절부터 30년 가까이 동고동락하며 함께 정치를 고민해 온 각별한 친구”라고 소개하며, “이번 서산시장 선거에서 반드시 맹 후보를 당선시켜야 한다는 간절한 마음을 안고 서산 시민들을 뵙기 위해 달려왔다”고 방문 소회를 밝혔다.
이어 조 사무총장은 맹 후보의 정책적 역량과 진정성을 높이 평가했다. 그는 “맹정호 후보가 시민들 앞에 내놓은 비전과 정책 공약은 단순히 개인의 약속이 아니다”라며, “국회 다수당이자 집권 여당인 더불어민주당이 당의 명운을 걸고 함께 약속하고, 함께 책임질 든든한 공약”이라며 당 차원의 전폭적인 지원을 약속했다.

이어 맹 후보는 “이 소중한 백지수표에 서산의 미래를 바꿀 대형 국책 사업과 시민들의 삶을 풍요롭게 할 민생 정책들을 가득 채워 넣겠다”며, “서산의 위기를 기회로 바꾸고 ‘다시 뛰는 서산’을 만들기 위해 이재명 정부, 그리고 민주당의 강력한 힘을 서산 발전의 원동력으로 반드시 연결하겠다”고 목소리를 높이며 필승의 의지를 다졌다.
이날 동부시장 유세 현장은 양측의 연설이 이어지는 동안 지지자들의 뜨거운 함성과 호응이 이어지며 선거 열기를 한층 더 고조시켰다.
