시는 오는 21일 호서대학교 창의교양학부 원어민 교수진 및 학생들과 함께 영어 특화 프로그램 English Playtime을 운영한다고 밝혔다. 이번 프로그램은 지역 거점 대학의 우수한 인적 자원을 공공 도서관의 기반 시설과 결합한 재능기부 형태의 사업으로, 단순한 학습을 넘어 지역사회 교육 공동체의 실질적인 상생 모델로 평가받는다.
활동은 다가올 여름방학을 주제로 선정해 어린이들의 눈높이에 맞춘 영어 동화책 낭독과 오감을 자극하는 다양한 놀이로 구성된다. 아이들은 원어민 교수 및 대학생들과 자유롭게 어울리며 언어 장벽에 대한 거부감을 없애고 자연스럽게 영어 표현을 익히는 시간을 가질 예정이다. 프로그램은 6세부터 13세 어린이 누구나 별도의 사전 예약 없이 당일 오후 4시 50분까지 청수도서관 영어자료실 내 키즈룸으로 방문하면 즉시 참여할 수 있다.
이재순 청수도서관장은 "이번 활동이 어린이들에게는 영어에 대한 막연한 두려움을 자신감으로 바꾸는 계기가 되고, 참여 대학생들에게는 전공 역량을 지역사회에 환원하는 뜻깊은 성장의 발판이 되길 바란다"고 강조했다.
대학과 지자체가 협력해 사교육 부담 없는 고품질 영어 교육 기회를 창출하는 이번 시도는 향후 천안시 영어 특화 서비스의 질적 성장을 견인할 것으로 기대된다. 지역 인재들이 아이들의 멘토로 나서는 이러한 선순환 구조는 천안이 지향하는 교육 도시로서의 위상을 한 단계 높이는 중요한 이정표가 될 것이다.

The city announced that it will operate 'English Playtime', a specialized English program, on the 21st in collaboration with native professors and students from Hoseo University's Department of Creative Liberal Arts. This program is a talent donation project that combines the excellent human resources of a regional hub university with the infrastructure of a public library, and is evaluated as a practical win-win model for the community education society beyond simple learning.
The activities are composed of reading English storybooks tailored to children's eye levels under the theme of the upcoming summer vacation and various plays that stimulate the five senses. Children will have time to overcome their reluctance toward language barriers and naturally learn English expressions while mingling freely with native professors and university students. Any child aged 6 to 13 can participate immediately by visiting the Kids Room in the English Resource Center of Cheongsu Library by 4:50 PM on that day without any prior reservation.
Lee Jae-sun, director of Cheongsu Library, emphasized, "I hope this activity serves as an opportunity for children to turn their vague fear of English into confidence, and as a foothold for growth for participating university students to return their major capabilities to the local community."
This attempt, in which the university and the local government cooperate to create high-quality English education opportunities without the burden of private education, is expected to drive the qualitative growth of Cheonan City's specialized English services in the future. This virtuous cycle structure, in which regional talents serve as mentors for children, will be an important milestone in raising the status of Cheonan as an educational city.
