"Dried Mangoes" Grown by Seosan Volunteers in Cambodia Return into the Hands of Seosan Citizens
The fruit of 11 years of sweat Eco-friendly mangoes from 'Seosan Village' in Cambodia arrive in Seosan
International volunteer organization 'Love in Kamco' takes delivery of 40kg of dried mangoes co-cultivated with Boeng Chat residents
Chairman Ga Geum-hyun: "All sales proceeds will go toward a fund to build a middle school in Cambodia"
[Society / CTN] Reporter Han Seong-jin = The 'fruits of sharing' cultivated by the hands of volunteers from Seosan City in a remote Cambodian village have finally arrived on Seosan soil, CTN, South Korea's leading internet newspaper, reported.
Love in Kamco (Chairman Ga Geum-hyun, current CEO of CTN), an international volunteer organization, announced on May 16 that it has taken delivery of 40kg of premium dried mangoes harvested and processed at the 'Seosan Village Mango Farm' in Boeng Chat Village, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The mangoes that arrived this time represent the culmination of 11 years of dedication, from planting saplings to maintaining the farm, by outstanding volunteers, related organizations, and institutions from Seosan City since Love in Kamco established the farm in Boeng Chat Village back in 2015.
This particular shipment was made possible after Chairman Ga Geum-hyun flew to Cambodia in April to sign a lease agreement with the NGO Cambofriend (Chairman Kim Sang-soo) and carefully selected the finest of this year's harvest.
Adding more meaning to the achievement, Chairman Kim Sang-soo personally transported the mangoes from Cambodia to South Korea.
The "Seosan Village Dried Mangoes" introduced this time are evaluated to be on a completely different level from mass-produced commercial mangoes.
Unlike large-scale plantations in Vietnam or Thailand that utilize pesticides and herbicides, this farm produces 'eco-friendly' goods where Seosan City volunteers regularly visit to prune trees, apply fertilizer, and clear weeds purely through manual labor.
The product stickers are clearly inscribed with phrases that showcase the volunteers' pride, reading: "Mangoes raised together by Seosan volunteers and Boeng Chat residents" and "Cambodia Boeng Chat Seosan Village Mango Farm."
Although visits from volunteers had temporarily decreased recently due to unstable political situations in Cambodia, Chairman Ga Geum-hyun and several volunteers continued their visits and management of the farm regardless.
Kim Sang-soo, representative of Cambofriend, stated, "Without Chairman Ga Geum-hyun's extraordinary affection and perseverance for the Cambodian mango farm, today's achievement would have been impossible. Based on this success, we are now able to paint a bigger picture for improving the future educational environment in Cambodia."
As the 40kg shipment is the maximum volume that could be brought in by hand, Love in Kamco plans to first have the volunteers evaluate its taste and quality before securing a full-scale additional supply in the second half of the year.
Chairman Ga Geum-hyun said, "While it is still an insufficient amount to supply to many volunteers, I am delighted to present the finest mangoes grown by our own hands. All sales proceeds, excluding processing fees, will be preciously used as a fund to build a middle school to improve Cambodia's educational environment."
The small saplings planted in barren soil 11 years ago have now returned as a sweet reward in the form of dried mangoes, once again igniting the flame of sharing in the hearts of Seosan City volunteers.
Ga Geum-hyun, Chairman of Love in Kamco, added, "A bag of these mangoes contains not just fruit, but the warm hearts of Seosan citizens. We ask for the keen interest of our citizens so that these mangoes can become schools and futures for Cambodian children."
