[Title] Hyundai ITC Labor Union Declares Support for Dangjin Mayor Candidate Kim Ki-jae: "The Right Person to Realize the Value of Labor"
[Politics/CTN] Reporter Ga Geum-hyun = Kim Ki-jae, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Mayor of Dangjin, has gained significant momentum in his policy campaign after receiving full support from the labor sector.
Candidate Kim Ki-jae announced that he has signed a policy agreement and received an official declaration of support from the Hyundai ITC Labor Union (Chairman Shin Bong-gu) under the Federation of Korean Metalworkers' Trade Unions. This agreement focuses on protecting the rights of industrial workers and creating a sustainable industrial city in Dangjin.
In their declaration of support, the Hyundai ITC Labor Union stated, "Dangjin is currently standing at a crucial moment of choice amidst industrial transition and changes in the local economy. We need a leader who can practice the value of labor through policy and administration, and truly listen to the voices from the field."
The union further emphasized, "Candidate Kim Ki-jae has clearly presented a sustainable growth direction for Dangjin, including strengthening regional industrial competitiveness, expanding youth job opportunities, prioritizing the hiring of local talent, and building a foundation for future industries. As he has consistently emphasized that workers must not be marginalized in the process of industrial development, we judge him to be the right person to build a Dangjin where labor and industry grow together."
On this day, Candidate Kim and the Hyundai ITC Labor Union adopted and agreed to jointly pursue '7 Major Policy Tasks' aimed at ensuring job security for industrial workers, creating a safe working environment, and revitalizing the local economy.
[7 Major Joint Policy Tasks]
Establishing regular labor-management-government meetings and systems for collecting on-site feedback
Promoting social discussions to prevent restructuring and mass layoffs
Preventing industrial disasters and improving the working environment
Supporting shift workers and expanding welfare in industrial complexes
Protecting basic labor rights and establishing a culture of autonomous bargaining
Preparing support measures for a "just" industrial transition
Expanding the recruitment of local talent and promoting win-win development for the local economy
In particular, both sides agreed to actively cooperate in strengthening industrial safety policies, such as eliminating risk factors at steel mill sites (including extreme heat, dust, and heavy lifting), expanding rest facilities, and providing protective gear. Furthermore, they decided to join forces to establish a response system based on the principles of a 'just transition' to ensure workers do not face job insecurity during the carbon-neutral and industrial transition process.
Candidate Kim Ki-jae responded, "At the heart of Dangjin's industry, there have always been workers silently sweating in the field. Industry can grow sustainably and the local economy can gain greater vitality only when labor is respected."
He added, "I will establish a regular communication system so that the voices of the labor field can be practically reflected in the administration. I will make Dangjin a city where workers can feel safe and secure at work by expanding job security, industrial safety, and labor welfare."
