김기재 후보는 전국금속노동조합연맹 현대ITC노동조합(위원장 신봉구)과 정책협약을 체결하고 공식 지지 선언을 이끌어냈다고 밝혔다. 이번 협약은 산업노동자의 권익 보호와 지속 가능한 산업도시 당진 조성을 골자로 한다.
현대ITC노동조합은 지지 선언문을 통해 “당진은 지금 산업 전환과 지역경제 변화 속에서 중요한 선택의 순간에 서 있다”며 “노동의 가치를 정책과 행정으로 실천하고, 현장의 목소리를 제대로 들을 수 있는 리더가 필요하다”고 지지 배경을 설명했다.
노조 측은 이어 “김기재 후보는 지역 산업 경쟁력 강화와 함께 청년 일자리 확대, 지역 인재 우선 채용, 미래산업 기반 조성 등 지속 가능한 당진의 성장 방향을 분명하게 제시해 왔다”며 “산업 발전 과정에서 노동자가 소외되어서는 안 된다는 점을 꾸준히 강조해 온 만큼, 노동과 산업이 함께 성장하는 당진을 만들 적임자”라고 강조했다.
이날 김 후보와 현대ITC노조는 산업노동자의 고용안정과 안전한 노동환경 조성, 지역경제 활성화를 위한 '7대 정책과제'를 채택하고 공동 추진하기로 협약했다.
7대 공동 정책과제는 ▲정기적인 노사정 간담회 및 현장 의견수렴 체계 마련 ▲구조조정·대량해고 방지를 위한 사회적 논의 추진 ▲산업재해 예방과 작업환경 개선 ▲교대근무 노동자 지원 및 산업단지 복지 확대 ▲노동기본권 보호와 자율 교섭 문화 정착 ▲정의로운 산업전환 지원대책 마련 ▲지역 인재 채용 확대와 지경제 상생 발전이다.
특히 양측은 제철소 현장의 폭염·분진·중량물 작업 등 위험요소 개선과 휴게시설 확충, 보호구 지원 등 산업안전 정책 강화에 적극 협력하기로 했다.
아울러 탄소중립과 산업전환 과정에서 노동자의 고용불안이 발생하지 않도록 '정의로운 전환 원칙'에 기반한 대응체계 마련에도 힘을 모으기로 했다.
김기재 후보는 “당진 산업의 중심에는 언제나 현장에서 묵묵히 땀 흘려온 노동자 여러분이 있었다”라며 “노동이 존중받아야 산업도 지속가능하게 성장할 수 있고, 지역경제 역시 더 큰 활력을 얻을 수 있다”고 화답했다.
이어 김 후보는 “노동 현장의 목소리가 행정에 실질적으로 반영될 수 있도록 상시 소통체계를 구축하겠다”며 “고용안정과 산업안전, 노동복지 확대를 통해 노동자가 안심하고 일할 수 있는 당진을 만들겠다”고 약속했다.

Furthermore, they decided to join forces to establish a response system based on the principles of a 'just transition' to ensure workers do not face job insecurity during the carbon-neutral and industrial transition process.
Candidate Kim Ki-jae responded, "At the heart of Dangjin's industry, there have always been workers silently sweating in the field. Industry can grow sustainably and the local economy can gain greater vitality only when labor is respected."
He added, "I will establish a regular communication system so that the voices of the labor field can be practically reflected in the administration. I will make Dangjin a city where workers can feel safe and secure at work by expanding job security, industrial safety, and labor welfare."
