확대 지난 4월 천안 두정초등학교에서 진행된 별빛충전소에서 시민들이 천체 관측을 하고 있다.

[천안/CTN]강현수 기자 = 천안의 도심 속 학교 운동장이 머나먼 우주의 신비를 눈앞에서 생생하게 목격할 수 있는 거대한 천문대로 변신한다.

천안홍대용과학관은 오는 22일 천안희망초등학교 운동장에서 시민들을 위한 찾아가는 천체관측 프로그램인 ‘도심 속 이동천문대 별빛충전소’를 본격 운영한다고 18일 밝혔다. 이번 행사는 과학관이라는 제한된 공간을 탈피해 시민들의 일상 공간으로 직접 찾아가 우주과학 문화의 저변을 넓히고 특색 있는 야간 체험 기회를 제공하기 위해 전액 무료로 마련됐다.

이번 별빛충전소에서는 달의 크레이터와 태양계 행성, 아름다운 쌍성 등을 전문가의 해설과 함께 고배율 망원경으로 직접 관측하는 야간 천체관측이 진행된다. 특히 관람객들이 고배율 망원경에 자신의 스마트폰을 대고 달의 표면을 직접 촬영해 소장할 수 있는 달 사진 촬영 체험과, 소형 망원경을 조작해 밤하늘의 다양한 천체들을 스스로 찾아보는 자유 관측 등 다채롭고 직관적인 프로그램들이 펼쳐져 참가자들의 오감을 만족시킬 예정이다.

행사는 별도의 사전 예약이나 신청 절차 없이 천문과학에 관심이 있는 시민이라면 누구나 참여할 수 있다. 오는 22일 오후 8시부터 10시까지 천안희망초등학교 운동장으로 자유롭게 방문하면 즉시 우주 탐험에 동참할 수 있다. 다만 야간 야외 관측 행사의 특성상 당일 우천이나 짙은 구름 등 기상 악화로 인해 관측이 불가능할 경우에는 안전과 원활한 진행을 위해 행사가 전격 취소된다.

이종택 천안홍대용과학관장은 “이번 이동천문대 행사가 자라나는 아이들에게는 우주를 향한 위대한 꿈을 심어주고, 시민들에게는 일상 속에서 과학을 친숙하게 즐기는 뜻깊은 기회가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 시민들의 삶의 현장 속으로 더욱 가까이 다가가는 열린 과학관이 될 수 있도록 현장 중심의 찾아가는 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The Cheonan Hong Dae-yong Science Museum announced on the 18th that it will formally operate the "Starlight Charging Station in the City," a visiting astronomical observation program, at the Cheonan Himang Elementary School playground on the coming 22nd. Breaking away from the limited space of a traditional science museum, this event was organized entirely free of charge to directly visit the daily spaces of citizens, expanding the base of space science culture and providing a unique nighttime experiential opportunity.

At this Starlight Charging Station, nighttime astronomical observations will be conducted to directly view lunar craters, solar system planets, and beautiful binary stars through high-magnification telescopes along with expert commentary. In particular, the event is expected to satisfy the five senses of participants through colorful and intuitive programs, such as a moon photography experience where visitors can take photos of the moon's surface with their own smartphones through high-magnification telescopes, and free observation where they can operate small telescopes to search for various celestial bodies on their own.

The event is open to any citizen interested in astronomical science without any prior reservation or application process. Anyone can join the space exploration immediately by freely visiting the Cheonan Himang Elementary School playground from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the 22nd. However, due to the nature of nighttime outdoor observation events, the event will be officially canceled for safety and smooth operation if observation becomes impossible due to adverse weather conditions, such as rain or heavy cloud cover on that day.

Lee Jong-taek, Director of the Cheonan Hong Dae-yong Science Museum, stated, "We hope this mobile observatory event will instill grand dreams of the universe in growing children and serve as a meaningful opportunity for citizens to familiarly enjoy science in their daily lives." He added, "We will continuously expand visiting, field-centered programs so that we can become an open science museum that steps even closer into the actual lives of our citizens."
