특히 김 단장은 유권자들의 각별한 주의를 당부했다. 그는 "사소해 보이는 작은 선물이나 밥 한 끼, 단돈 만 원을 제공받더라도 최고 50배의 과태료가 부과될 수 있다"며, "예컨대 만 원짜리 국밥 한 그릇을 대접받았다가 50만 원의 과태료 폭탄을 맞을 수 있으니 유권자 스스로 청렴한 선거 문화 조성에 동참해달라"고 당부했다. 이어 "공정 선거를 위협하는 부정선거 신고 포상금은 최대 5억 원에 달한다"며 서산시민들의 적극적인 제보를 요청했다.

이 같은 자발적 움직임에 대해 맹정호 서산시장 후보 측은 환영의 뜻을 나타냈다.

맹 후보 캠프 관계자는 "공명선거감시단이 후보 직속의 선거캠프 조직은 아니지만, 공명선거를 바라는 당원들의 자발적인 참여와 활동을 적극 환영한다"면서 "이번 감시단 활동을 계기로 이번 6.3 지방선거가 그 어떤 선거보다 깨끗하고 공정하게 치러지기를 기대한다"고 전했다.

한편, 김규민 단장은 "공정하고 정의로운 서산을 만들기 위해 시민 모두가 감시자가 되어야 한다"며, 사소한 것이라도 불법선거운동 정황이나 의심 사례를 발견하면 즉시 공명선거감시단 제보 창구로 신고해 줄 것을 거듭 부탁했다.
